constellations of grace
"he counts the number of stars; he gives names to them all." -psalm 147:4-
Scripture says the "heavens declare the glory of God." (psalm 19:1) The stars tell of God's glory, his faithfulness, his greatness. It was a star that told the wise men of their Savior.
Imagine each star representing a mighty act of our God. Imagine being able to point to one and seeing a specific event from your life of the Lord's faithfulness play out. Each star like a scene in a movie and you can click one from the scene selection.
The sky is full of stars but even their amount is not enough to capture all of the mighty acts of our Lord. Psalm 66 finds psalmist remembering the mighty acts of his God. The parting of the red sea. The defeat of enemies. The testing and trials that brought them to abundance.
Today I found myself in a moment of anxiety for the future. I couldn't see the Lord's faithfulness for my unknown so I decided to remember his faithfulness in what I have known. I needed to remember or else like the Isrealites in the desert, soon after being freed, forgetting all who God was.
So I remembered. I wrote down a list of past graces, enough to fill up pages, enough to quiet my restless mind. As I remembered, I saw that so much grace was given in seasons where I felt utterly hopeless. Seasons where I wondered where this God of Jacob was. Seasons where I felt alone.
Often it is in the reflection that we see the fuller picture. We can connect the grace given like connecting stars in the sky and seeing constellations.
The heavens declare the glory of God and our lives are full of grace-constellations, full of stars showing the Lord's faithfulness that when connected create some beautiful, something fuller for our finite minds. Find the stars. Remember the grace. Let the Lord's faithfulness show you how in his wisdom and goodness he has created beautiful constellations.
