is this really our King?
"Jesus said, 'I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and revealed them to infants.'" Matthew 11:25
You came for children, to those aware of their need and in awe that you would save them. You came for the unlearned, those not knowing how to use the word "hermeneutics" in casual conversation, not knowing what "mortification of sin" means but knowing that their sin is ugly and they need help. You came for the easily confused, for the "let me see your hands, let me find where nails pierced it," for those who cannot fathom who you are but also cannot fathom life apart from you.
You came for the beggars, those on the outskirt of society, those holding up a sign, "CAN'T WORK FOR SALVATION. NEED A SAVIOR."
Is this really who you came for? Not the intellectuals? Not those able to recite Scripture in their sleep? Not those with pristine records? Not those able to articulate their systematic theology? Not those who are tidy and polite and put together?
You entered into this world without pomp and circumstance. You entered in a lowly position for a lowly people. Your body ached from labor, covered in sweat and sawdust. You had no place to rest your head. You were misunderstood, mislabeled, and misused.
Your days were spent in hard labor and long conversations. You gave of yourself---emotionally and physically---to save sinners.
Is this really a King? Could this be our Savior? No sword in hand, only a hammer. No crown on his head, only sweat on his brow.
"I am lowly and humble in heart," Jesus said of himself, and he comes for those willing to admit the same.
